Jessica McCallin is one of a growing number of single British women using sperm banks in Denmark. As Jessica McCallin smiles down at her little girl, there is no mistaking the family resemblance. The pair share the same fair hair, blue eyes and broad smile — which makes it even more remarkable that three-year-old Freya was conceived using a sperm donor almost miles away in Denmark and Jessica has absolutely no idea who the father is. Far from being unusual, hers is a decision that increasing numbers of British women are making. Approaching 40, single and with her body clock ticking, Jessica knew time was running out for her to become a mother. For Jessica the decision made perfect sense. The Viking aspect had a certain appeal.
LGBT themes in mythology occur in mythologies and religious narratives that include stories of romantic affection or sexuality between figures of the same sex or that feature divine actions that result in changes in gender. These myths are forms of LGBT lesbian , gay , bisexual , transgender expression, and modern conceptions of sexuality and gender have been applied to them. Many mythologies ascribe homosexuality and gender fluidity in humans to the action of gods or of other supernatural interventions. The application of gender studies and queer theory to non-Western mythic tradition is less developed, but has grown since the end of the twentieth century. The status of mythology varies by culture.
The lotus is a very good example of the way that man de-pends on Nature not only for his sustenance but also for elements of his dreams, aspirations and beliefs. Man invents nothing, his imagination is restricted to his environment but his genius is to use it to survive and to dream. A sacred plant in Egypt and in Japan, the lotus is also profane, an everyday plant a plant one can eat, drink and use to care for oneself. Its importance is such that one cannot give it a quick glance or a summary. We speak of Laos knowing that in all the indo-Malaysian zone, this complex plant is at the same time a food, a medicine, a flower of dreams and of the law.
